Happy Mother’s Day

My son wrote this poem for me. I couldn’t keep it to myself.

There are gifts that cost nothing and mean everything. This poem — written by my son, in his own words, in his own hand — is one of them. On Mother’s Day, he gave me the most beautiful thing a child can give: his heart on a page.

A mother and child moment
Oh Mommy! Oh Mommy!
I love you a lot
But do not get fooled
My sister does not.

Oh Mommy! Oh Mommy!
You do so much
I will help you
I will make you lunch.

Oh Mommy! Oh Mommy!
I make you laugh
But one day I hope
I will take your autograph.

Oh Mommy! Oh Mommy!
There is so much to say
I can't say it in words
But I will brighten your day.

One day I hope I will take your autograph.

That line gets me every time. The cheek, the love, the ambition — all of it wrapped into one small line. To every mom reading this: you are seen, you are loved, and somewhere in your home is a little person who would write you a poem too, if only they had the words.

Share this with a mom who deserves to feel celebrated today. Happy Mother’s Day. ♥
